2018 Spring Training Campaign
Concept: Pins

One of the many challenges with Spring Training coverage is figuring out how to promote two different leagues (Cactus & Grapefruit) as well as all the different locations where games are played while still keeping it fun and interesting. Our VP asked our team of Producers along with myself to come up with creative ideas on how we can let the viewer know there are multiple locations in each state (Florida and Arizona) where the teams play. While researching I came across the Google Pins icon (below) and thought it would be a cool way to represent the various ballparks. Luckily my concept was chosen. In the video below you will see we composited the pins into live action footage from various teams during spring training. In some shots it appears the players are watching the pins fly through the sky as we follow them to their destination. We also carried the look over to game menus. We purchased hi-res scenic shots on Pond 5 and composited each scene. The design, VFX compositing and animation were all executed by mo-graph artist Mike Stevens. We also carried the pins concept over to print and digital. The print ad below was created in C4D and Photoshop by mo-graph artist Chris Gallagher. This was a really fun project to develop and guide into finalization across various platforms for marketing and promotion.
